The Plaza del Pasado began a major revitalization in early 2009 with its grand reopening scheduled for May 2010. The new owner, Old Town Family Hospitality Corp, is committed to restoring this once vibrant, active and festive landmark of San Diego. With all of the new renovations, businesses and landscaping the new Fiesta de Reyes is welcoming locals and visitors to join in this marvelous transformation.
The new Fiesta de Reyes is located between Juan and Calhoun streets inside Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, a one-block stroll from the Old Town Trolley Station. Free parking is available at the trolley station. The Grand Opening on May 9, 2010 includes performers from Zirk Ubu, mariachis and more during free festivities to mark the reopening of one of San Diego’s most talked about destinations. Roaming performers will entertain crowds throughout Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and the avant-garde Zirk Ubu will present an extravagant stage performance in Old Town’s central square.
Within Fiesta de Reyes, two restaurants have been completely remodeled and are welcoming patrons. Festooned with true 1850s California-style antiques, collectables and paintings, Barra Barra is a full-service restaurant and saloon with indoor and outdoor seating. Casa de Reyes, the courtyard restaurant in the center of Fiesta de Reyes, has been completely restored with a new carrizo arbor, an outdoor tortilla factory, mariachi stage and California hacienda décor.
Surrounding the Fiesta de Reyes courtyard, you will find quaint retail shops offering products from around the world. Taste wine grown and manufactured locally or sample olive oil straight from the orchards in Temecula; smile and have fun in one of San Diego favorite toy stores, Geppettos; and marvel at the locally made jewelry as well as a traditional Mexican bakery.
